With the 58th Venice Biennale opening this week, art platform Contemporary HUM asked Dr Zara Stanhope, Lead Curator of Post hoc, for an introduction to the New Zealand exhibition by this year’s selected artist Dane Mitchell, and to contextualise it within Mitchell’s wider practice.
Zara is the Curatorial Manager, Asian and Pacific Art at Australia’s Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA). Her curatorial practice spans more than 70 curated and co-curated exhibitions of Australian, New Zealand and international art and she is widely published.
